Operation Skyhook 2023 is in the history books. Red-Tailed Hawks fly home victorious! Today, ten days of cross-country flying, Young Eagles flights, and pilot skill competition will come to a close with a flight from Santa Monica, CA (KSMO) to Seattle, WA (KBFI). We had to recalculate the weight and balance to accommodate all the trophies.
In short, the Red-Tailed Hawks won top team honors at Operation Skyhook, Grider Field, AR, 25-29 May 2023. Eight members with two airplanes showed up and showed out! Joseph Truss took 1st in pylon proficiency. David Benton III took 1st spot landing. Jesse Hayes IV took 2nd in pylon proficiency. Asher Tungsvik took 3rd in balloon burst. In total, Black Pilots of America provided free discovery flights to 115 youth, with 99 flown under the umbrella of Young Eagles. So much done; more sharing to come…
Operation Skyhook began in 1971 in Yazoo, MS. Next year, the City of Pine Bluff, AR, will celebrate 25 years of Operation Skyhook at Grider Filed (KPBF). Mark your calendars for Memorial Weekend 2024. We will see you there.
