President@redtailedhawksflyingclub.org
Growing up in Houston, TX, he was first introduced to aviation by the Bronze Eagles Flying Club in 1968. His first solo was at the age of 15. He remained connected to general aviation while in the Air Force and helped start a new chapter of Black Pilots of America, Inc. (BPA): the Arkansas Thunderbirds. While living in Waco, TX, he started the Bronze Eagles Flying Club’s Waco Region and the annual Waco Youth Fly-In. Now a resident of Washington State, he has introduced BPA to the Puget Sound area as President of the Red-Tailed Hawks Flying Club (RTH). Under his leadership RTH has grown to be the largest chapter in BPA and created a year-around youth program, two aviation camps and a formal flight training program – Red-Tailed Hawks FLY. With over 40 years of aviation and space operations experience, introducing youth to the aerospace industry is his ministry.

Djana Milton
Chief Pilot
Red-Tailed Hawks Flying Club
Chief_Pilot@redtailedhawksflyingclub.org
Djana Milton is an instrument rated private pilot and a single-engine, fixed-wing aircraft owner. She bought her first plane, a Piper Cherokee, five hours into her flight training and earned her pilot certificate in it over twenty years ago. She now flies – and evangelizes to anyone within earshot the merits of -- a Cessna 182.
Djana has been a member of the Red-Tailed Hawks Flying Club (RTH) since the Spring of 2020 and first flew with them, giving introductory flights to youth, at Boeing Field for the organization’s annual Aviation Day Camp. A Computer Scientist by education and profession, Djana served as lead for the completion of ROADS on Mars during Covid and ROADS on Asteroids the following year, allowing students to set up and build in her hangar for the duration of the competition. On days when the PAVE criteria make for a no-fly day or as a matter of routine for RTH FLY, Djana often volunteers as event photographer. She also sets aside a day each summer during FLY to speak to the cadets on the topic of Radio Communications. She has also produced the club’s first instructional aid video.
In her spare time, Djana enjoys conducting public service flying missions for animal rescue organization Pilots N Paws, flying for pie, and enjoying the freedoms her flying privileges afford her.
As Chief Pilot for RTH, Djana’s priorities are to improve pilot retention by encouraging “fellowship and participation in flying and flying activities” (BPA By-Laws) among pilots, and working to elevate and formalize policies and procedures around Flight Safety and its relevant considerations.
