Day Two of the Red-Tailed Hawks Aviation Experience was baked on Saturday, 26 June 2021. We beat the record by completing flight operations ahead of the original schedule. Twenty-nine students came to Pearson Field, Vancouver, WA (VUO) to learn some basic principles of rocket design, fly in airplanes, gain some pilot knowledge and discuss college and career options. Three student groups cycled through three activities. In one hangar was OMSI’s “3-2-1 Blast Off!” course during which the students designed, built, and launched paper rockets. Next, the students met RTH pilots, helped conduct pre-flight inspections of airplanes, and went flying. In the second hangar, the RTH Aviation Experience concluded with discussing basic aeronautics and learning how an altimeter works. They went on to understand indicated altitude, pressure altitude, absolute altitude, true altitude, and density altitude. Finally, RTH instructors led a discussion about the USAF Academy, USAF, and other college/career options.#FlyHawks #OMSI
