March rewind! Online, RTH presented the living history of Theresa Claiborne, who has the distinction of being the first black female pilot in the US Air Force. She is also a Captain for United Airlines and the founder of Sisters of the Skies. Next, we covered Flight Instruments with emphasis on the basic six-pack. However, the lesson began with a review of the fundamentals of flight and flight control systems and connecting the manipulation of the four forces on an airplane to the application of the “six-pack.” We also enjoyed, some great Q&A and comparison to glass flight deck displays. We were also blessed to have Mark Randolph, USAFA 1985 and Captain for UPS, to share his background and experience flying Boeing and Airbus airplanes to deliver cargo.
Lastly, we visited our NESSP partner, the Pacific Science Center, where we reviewed flight instruments and incorporated a competitive exercise, experienced the planetarium, and explored the exhibits including butterflies.
