Growing up in Houston, TX, he was first introduced to aviation by the Bronze Eagles Flying Club in 1968. His first solo was at the age of 15. He remained connected to general aviation while in the Air Force and helped start a new chapter of Black Pilots of America, Inc. (BPA): the Arkansas Thunderbirds. While living in Waco, TX, he started the Bronze Eagles Flying Club’s Waco Region and the annual Waco Youth Fly-In. Now a resident of Washington State, he has introduced BPA to the Puget Sound area as President of the Red-Tailed Hawks Flying Club (RTH). Under his leadership RTH has grown to be the largest chapter in BPA and created a year-around youth program, two aviation camps and a formal flight training program – Red-Tailed Hawks FLY. With over 40 years of aviation and space operations experience, introducing youth to the aerospace industry is his ministry.

Christopher K. Smith
Operations Officer
Operations@redtailedhawksflyingclub.org

My name is Christopher K. Smith (Chris), and I'm thrilled to embark on this journey with you as your Red-Tailed Hawks Flying Club’s Operations Officer. As such, I am tasked with assisting the Red-Tailed Hawks with the day-to-day operations of the organization. I was born and raised in Houston, Texas where I graduated from Booker T. Washington’s High School for Engineering Professions (HSEP). After High School I moved to San Diego Ca and embarked on an 8-year journey in the US Navy where I served as an electronics technician working on Radars, Transmitters & Receivers. I also have a Master’s Degree in Information Security (MSIS) and a background in technology, system design and project management.

I am married and I have 3 beautiful intelligent daughters. When my Naval career concluded I relocated to the Pacific NW and began working for The Boeing Company. At Boeing I worked primarily on Avionics and Network Systems on the 737/757/767 & 787. After 22 years at The Boeing Company, I retired in 2022. I bring to this organization a unique blend of experiences, creativity, analytical thinking, empathy, and a love for working with our youth to help them activate their greatness.

Outside of my professional pursuits, you might find me listening to music, watching sports on tv, or surfing the web where I draw knowledge and inspiration to recharge my creative energy. I believe that life is all about “knowing your purpose”, giving back to our community and to our young people that may need a little help pursuing their dreams. I am a fan of embracing new experiences, learning from diverse perspectives, and constantly seeking growth.

Thank you for allowing me to join you on this journey. I can't wait to explore, learn, and grow together with this organization.
