Black History is American History! Black History is living history. Look up Willa Beatrice Brown, the first Black woman to hold a commercial pilot certificate in the United States, and follow Red-Tailed Hawk Taylor C. Clark who just earned her commercial pilot certificate last month. Way to go Taylor! Brown owned and ran a flight school in Chicago. She helped create the National Airmen’s Association of America in 1939 and was the president of the Chicago branch. Brown was the Chicago coordinator for Civilian Pilot Training Program (CPTP) and her flight school trained 200 of the men who are now known as the Tuskegee Airmen.
