The Red-Tailed Hawks Chapter, BPA enjoyed a fantastic August Meeting Series and Family Picnic, at Tacoma Narrows Airport, WA (TIW), this weekend. We hit all of our operational imperatives of FLY, FAMILY, and FUTURE this weekend. We had seven pilots flying airplanes, members being acquainted and students learning.
On Friday, via Zoom, a couple of young men that benefited from the RTH Youth Program led the academic lesson. Ben Bradley presented the history lesson on James Herman Banning and Souleymane Ba taught the PHAK lesson on Airport Operations.
On Saturday, Navy LT Valentino Bailey shared his aerospace physiology experience in teaching the PHAK lesson on Aeromedical Factors. Afterward, the students engaged in an Airport Operations exercise during which they covered operations on the airport property, entering Class D airspace, and in the traffic pattern.
Next, the students walked to the Observation Deck for the Family Picnic and flight operations. By all accounts, it was great fellowship, aviation comradery, and abundant eating for 80+ participants. Many thanks to the TIW community and especially Rainier Flight Service for opening their facility and Tower personnel for their proactive support. Come fly with us!
