RTH Aviation Experience 2022 is in the history books. The Red-Tailed Hawks invited 50 rising 6th-12th graders to experience the world of aviation. The Friday Zoom session introduced youths to the history of Benjamin O. Davis, Jr., Gen USAF, STEM career opportunities and allowed them to engage with several aerospace industry professionals. On Saturday, the youths headed to Pearson Field, Vancouver, WA (VUO) to fly in general aviation aircraft and engage in Earth and space sciences. They learned about flying on the edge of space in a U-2 aircraft, the fundamentals of flight, aerodynamics, and atmospheric factors that influence aircraft performance. They also enjoyed hands-on STEM activities at the Person Field Education Center.
