The RTH June 9-10 Meeting Series served 82 members and guests, including 49 students. Friday’s Zoom was spectacular! Our youth read their inspiring Continuing the Legacy in Aviation essays. They wrote about an important person in aviation history and provided great insight into their own aviation dreams. In addition, Navy LT Shanice Wormley shared a joyful and uplifting discussion about her flying experiences with her P-8A aircrew and as an instrument-rated private pilot. Phil Johnson shared cool stories of learning to fly in rural Louisiana and adventures of flying his family into beautiful camping spots around Washington and Oregon.
On Saturday, the Washington State Patrol opened their hangar doors and educated us on the Aviation unit’s mission, aircraft, and capabilities. They operate some specially equipped Cessna 206 and Beechcraft King Air airplanes. Hats off to Trooper Anson Statema!
The RTH experience included the PHAK lesson covering Airport Operations, the history of Willa B. Brown, and a post-lunch rotation on the flight line to observe and discuss the KOLM airport environment, rotation to discuss fundamentals of flight, and rotation to preflight preparation. Unfortunately, the weather prevented us from flying with students.
