Red-Tailed Hawks land at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport! On Saturday, Nov 13th, 50 members and guests were greeted with red carpet treatment by the Port of Seattle! They opened up the SEA Conference Center welcomed us with open arms and fed us well. It was a wonderful learning experience. The history lesson introduced the career of Major General James T. Whitehead, Jr. who is most known for being the first Black U2 pilot. Next, RTH mentors walked the students through an overview of Airport Operations and a tabletop airport design exercise. Afterward, Steve Osmek, Aviation Wildlife Biologist, educated us on managing wildlife hazard management at SEA. As it turns out, young Red-Tailed Hawks are among the raptures that are frequently relocated to prevent aircraft bird strikes. Finally, Port personnel treated us to tours of the new International Arrivals Facility and the Airport Communications Center and gave us a rooftop view of SEA. What a wonderful day, which inspired some students to enter the FAA Airport Design Challenge. www.redtailedhawksflyignclub.org
