RTH hopes you have enjoyed a great holiday season. A couple of our Red-Tailed Hawks ladies have been been busy progressing in piloting skills.

On December 22nd Taylor Clark earned her multi-engine instructor (MEI) rating. Way to go Taylor!

On December 25th Kyla Palmer performed her first solo flight. We are proud of you Kyla! The cool part is that she was signed off by her brother Jaylen (RTH, CFI and USAFA cadet).

Red-Tailed Hawks FLY 2024 Cadets Graduate! From 13-27 July, twelve cadets were engaged in private pilot ground school, community outreach, and flight training. Two weeks of grueling 9-hour days culminated in leadership opportunities during the RTH Aviation Day Camp. The cadets introduced the fundamentals of flight, airplane parts, and primary aircraft instruments to the campers. They also served on the flight line during the discovery flights. More to come on these cadets as they chase their dreams of becoming pilots, engineers, and doctors.

2024 Red-Tailed Hawks FLY Cadets Have Taken Off! The ninth class of Red-Tailed Hawks Flight Lesson for Youth (FLY) started last weekend with two days of orientation and ground school. Twelve cadets have begun their journey towards private pilot certification, and for the next two weeks, they will be immersed in flight training and ground school nine hours a day. This jump-start to their learning is conducted in partnership with The Boeing Company, Galvin Flying, and the Red-Tailed Hawks Aviation Academy.

Nine cadets from WA, one from OR, and two from NY will not only learn pilot knowledge and skills but will also prepare to teach and serve during Boeing Field Airport Day and RTH Aviation Day Camp. They will participate in community outreach, teach campers the fundamentals of flight and airplane systems, and serve as ground crew for discovery flights. Hats off to our RTH Instructors.

Picture Perfect! 2023 Red-Tailed Hawks Flight Lessons for Youth (FLY) kicked off this weekend at Boeing Field (KBFI), WA. Eleven cadets began flight training Saturday and Sunday – eight cadets from Washington, one from North Carolina, one from New York, and one from Maryland.

This is the eighth Red-Tailed Hawks FLY class, and we are very excited to have this opportunity to help them pursue their aviation futures. Over the course of the next two week, they will complete Private Pilot ground school and log 10-12 hours of flight time. Those who perform well will earn the opportunity to continue to Private Pilot and beyond if desired.

Another Red-Tailed Hawks Solos! Congratulations Ishitha! Ishitha was the top cadet during the 2022 Red-Tailed Hawks FLY but had to delay solo until after turning 16. We’ll look forward to her earning her private pilot certificate next winter. Many thanks to her CFI, RTH member Phil Peters.

The 2022 Red-Tailed Hawks FLY Cadets

The 2022 Red-Tailed Hawks FLY Cadets concluded their training with leadership opportunities and a graduation ceremony at RTH Aviation Day Camp. After two weeks of concentrated academic study and flight training, ten FLY Cadets shared some of what they learned with the campers. The FLY Cadets escorted six groups of campers to three activities – a museum tour and scavenger hunt, an aviation learning center, and Earth science observation flights. FLY Cadets also worked the flight line as ground crew ensuring campers safely boarded and de-boarded the airplanes.

After the camp activity rotations, the FLY Cadets gathered in their camper groups to share their knowledge of the fundamentals of flight and atmospheric pressure. The camp finished with the Red-Tailed Hawks FLY graduation during which the FLY Cadets shared two things they learned from the experience with the audience of campers and parents. Congrats, to the all the FLY Cadets! The top three were Ishitha Arekapudi, Dillon Stidwell, Jessi Martinez and Lily Anderson.

Many thanks to our partner Galvin Flying and generous benefactors Leading Edge Jet Center and Whirly Bird Aviation who made the 2022 Red-Tailed Hawks Flight Lesson for Youth (FLY) possible. Red-Tailed Hawks FLY 2022 kicked off this weekend! The nine cadets were immersed in an intense pre-solo ground school that included academics, simulations and pre-flight procedures.

Hats off to Miss Taylor Clark, Miss Djana Milton, Mr. Phil Peters, and Mr. Edward-Smith under the leadership of Mr. John Frazier, chief pilot for getting this class of cadets off to a great start.
