Black History is American History, and the enslaved Africans came to America with centuries of STEM knowledge, skills, culture, and a desire for freedom. Yesterday, the Red-Tailed Hawks studied the Underground Railroad and how STEM was critical to its success. Further, we engaged in critical thinking and made shared connections to aviation in the areas of communication, navigation, and weight and balance considerations. In addition, DeMarco Best, Alaska Airlines, rolled out the red carpet for the Red-Tailed Hawks Youth Program providing classroom space, a tour of their Operations and Training Facility, and the opportunity to pilot the Boeing 737 Max simulators.
